About
• 18,000 people work within a one-mile radius of Downtown. Over half a million live in the Greater Tri-Cities area with a total population of 1.3 million within a 75-mile radius.
• Opening in Fall 2009, the Kingsport Academic Village will bring 3,000 new undergrad and post-grad students--and pump $21 million into Downtown. It will house branches of the University of Tennessee, Carson-Newman, Lincoln Memorial University, King College, Northeast State, and more.
• Local corporations are enveloping the Downtown with new initiatives:
◦ Eastman Chemical Company is continuing with its $1.3 Billion Project Reinvest
◦ Holston Valley Medical Center is progressing with its $100 million Project Platinum initiative
◦ Holston Medical Group opened a new $40 million, six-story, 200,000 sq ft medical office complex
◦ Also, right at one of Downtown's gateways, the Meadowview Marriot Conference Resort and Convention Center announced a major $30 million expansion and renovation. Meadowview also continues to garner global awards and remains the #1 Marriott in the world in guest satisfaction.
• Over 40 Downtown concerts and community events bring tens of thousands of residents right by your door throughout the year.
• Kingsport has a very walkable, 44-city block Downtown.
• Companies feeling the burn of high rent in Knoxville and Asheville are already investigating plans to move or start an additional concept in Downtown Kingsport. And living spaces aren't bad either: Kingsport's House Price Appreciation last year was named the 14th strongest in the nation.
• Our local government is very receptive to economic development and will work with you to help your relocation or expansion go smoothly.
◦ The US Chamber of Commerce Business Leadership Center and Siemens Corporation named Kingsport as a National Sustainable Community Award Winner. The honor was presented to Kingsport for the city’s ability to face 21st century challenges, such as environmental stewardship, economic growth and social capital, with great success, and for its higher education efforts. Kingsport was one of only three cities in the nation to garner the award.
◦ Kingsport was also named the Number One City in the Nation for Walkers by Walk! Magazine
◦ Kingsport was named as One of the Best Green Cities in the Southeast by CountryHome Magazine.
◦ Also it's worth noting that Kingsport's annual Chamber Dinner is the most attended Chamber of Commerce event in the United States.
